…my favorite book

Siri Hustvedt’s The Blazing World. It’s the most witty, heartrending, brilliantly philosophical novel I’ve read about what it’s like to be a woman and an artist.

…a favorite place I’ve visited

I love the walled city of Avignon in the south of France–when I lived there I finally understood what painters mean when they say, “It’s the light.”

…eight people living or dead I’d invite to my ideal dinner party

Joan of Arc, Sinéad O’Connor, Virginia Woolf, Johnette Napolitano, Patti Smith, Yoko Ono, Chantal Akerman, and Agnès Varda.

…something I can’t stop thinking about

The resilience and adaptability of certain non-human species. Sunflowers, for example, can absorb radioactive metals from the soil, and certain worms appear able to digest plastics!
