Felicia Kang

teacher, tutor, yoga enthusiast

Felicia has been teaching and tutoring for over twenty years. For the past eighteen of those years, she has taught middle and high school history at Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn. Felicia has a BA in Political Science from Barnard College, and a Masters degree in International history from the London School of Economics. She is also a mother of three kids – one who is a rising junior in college, and another who is a rising senior in high school and is thus quite empathetic to the culture of standardized tests, and its effects on the household. When she is not teaching or mothering, one can usually find Felicia at the gym or Yoga studio.

…a text I love to teach

Civilization and Its Discontents, by Sigmund Freud. Yes, in so many ways dated. And Yes, Freud can be loaded, but as a teaching text it is layered with ideas that forces students to consider their role in society, in their family and as individuals.

…a favorite place I’ve visited

Napali Coast, Kauai. It is simply transcendent…

…eight people living or dead I’d invite to my ideal dinner party

Toni Morrison, Ho Chi Minh, Kim Il Sung, Sonia Sotomayer, Empress Dowager Cixi, Ida B. Wells, Jimmy Carter, Harriet Tubman

…something I can’t stop thinking about

Time. Linearly, or marked by any other historical pattern. Oh, and my to do list…
