Steven Menking

tutor, researcher

Steven has been tutoring full time since 2014 and has worked with students on a broad range of standardized tests and academic subjects. His specialty subjects at the high school and college level are math, economics, statistics, and finance. Before becoming a tutor, Steven worked in finance as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley and an equities trader at SMB Capital. In 2019 he launched a YouTube channel called Menking Tutoring, where Steven hosts live SAT classes that are interactive and available to everyone for free, in the hope that students who otherwise wouldn’t be able to prepare for the SAT because of resource constraints can learn techniques and improve their scores.

…a text I love to teach

the preface to Livy’s History of Rome

…a favorite place I’ve visited

Every year my family gets together for a reunion up in Maine, where there is a house that has been in the family for over a century, for a long weekend of relaxation, home cooking, swimming, golf, karaoke, meteor showers and long talks around the fire pit.

…eight people living or dead I’d invite to my ideal dinner party

Jesus Christ, Abraham Lincoln, Isaac Newton, Socrates, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Søren Kierkegaard, Smedley Butler, Paul Morphy

…something I can’t stop thinking about
